The "I Promise" by Sassy Jac card is a really special card. No nonsense and cutting through the B.S., this is what a grieving mother needs to hear AND what she doesn't. This is a card to be sent by a real friend to someone grieving a pregnancy loss.
The card depicts two hands, entwined by the little fingers in a pinky promise. The large text reads "I promise" and in hearts around it "I'm here for you", "to help you through this", " I want to hear about your baby", and "I'm so sorry this happened". This is the message being sent. The message every grieving mother needs to hear.
The small text reads "I'll never say", and in circles, "at least you know you can get pregnant", "everything happens for a reason", "you can always try again", and "you have to stay positive". These are the well meant, but really hurtful platitudes so many grieving parents hear. Dismissive, reductive, judgmental and unhelpful, these should never be said to a parent who has lost a pregnancy or baby.
